Installation They Are Still There

The light was seeping through. We knew something better was there for us in the future, but not yet, for now, we had to wait. This open black box perfectly captures our situation there. We were physically safe, we were alive, and yet we couldn’t live. We were in a liminal space, suspended on a threshold for a period of time.
The artwork is an attempt to create space for all the thoughts, dreams, stories and a platform to express their feelings and opinions inside this environment.
The Installation is an attempt to create an intimate state through which you can touch this period and all the worries that the refugees have to live.
The paintings made of materials we used to consume on a daily basis (tea, coffee, etc.,) during that liminal period.
Inspired by the conflicts we have lived through. A4  21 × 29,7 cm

Painting They are Still There

A collection of paintings conceptualized and created during my residence at a refugee reception centre in the Netherlands. Initiated in 2015, these works express my immediate reaction to the Syrian war and the Syrian diaspora. The paintings show the tragedies of war and the impact of suffering as told by a refugee in the diaspora. This work consists of eleven paintings created with different materials. Using the resources available, nine of the paintings have been made from non-traditional media (i.e. coffee, tea, sugar..etc). which were demanded another purpose. Also, the pen and the pencil that has tasted the journey. Two of the paintings are Drypoint Etching on Plexiglass. which printed black CHARBONELL on paper.
